Advocacy at a Glance

August 8, 2014

Advocacy at a Glance offers you the bullet point summary of current advocacy issues associated with the goals of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA.

  • Appropriations Update.  Congress is out of session, and is scheduled to come back for 2 weeks starting on September 8.  With only 2 weeks to pass appropriations, a short-term spending measure to get through the November elections is expected.
  • New CBO Federal Budget Numbers. CQ is reporting new CBO numbers are out relative to the overall Federal budget picture.  Good news is that the annual deficit is getting smaller this year and next. Bad news is that it will start to grow again in 2 years. The projected deficit for this fiscal year is approximately $500 billion. Federal revenue grew by $182 billion, which eclipsed the growth in spending — which was a relatively modest $36 billion increase.
  • FDA 101 Hill Briefing. In today’s Analysis and Commentary, learn more about the Alliance’s Planned “FDA 101” education campaign that will be launched this Fall.
