Advocacy at a Glance

May 27, 2011

Advocacy at a Glance offers you the bullet point summary of current advocacy issues associated with the goals of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA.

  • FY 2012 House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee Mark-up Includes Deep Cuts for FDA.  The chairman’s mark was released on Tuesday and proposes cutting the FDA’s budget authority (BA) appropriations by $285 million for Fiscal Year 2012, which starts in October of 2011.  This represents an 11.5% cut from the recently passed FY 11 Continuing Resolution, which funds the government up until October of 2011. (For detailed analysis of the mark-up please click here). The full House Appropriation Committee mark-up is scheduled for Tuesday May 31 at 4:00 pm in Room 2359, Rayburn House Office Building.
  • Letter Writing Campaign: House Appropriations Committee.  The Alliance for a Stronger FDA has encouraged stakeholders to voice their concern over the FDA cuts as proposed in the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee mark-up by sending a letter to the Chairs and Ranking Members of the House Appropriations Committee and the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee articulating how cutting FDA’s budget impacts their organizations.  Please click here for guidance about submitting an appropriate  letter.
  • Congressional Meetings.  This past week the Alliance continued its meetings with members of the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee. In the weeks ahead we will be focusing more on our Senate-side advocacy.
