Advocacy at a Glance

May 31, 2013

Advocacy at a Glance offers you the bullet point summary of current advocacy issues associated with the goals of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA.

  • House Appropriations Agriculture/FDA Subcommittee Mark-up on June 5 at 9:30 a.m. The House Appropriations Agriculture/FDA Subcommittee mark-up will take place on June 5 at 9:30 a.m. The mark-up notice is attached.
  • Alliance’s New FDA Budget Primer Attached. We are about to launch into the next phase of the FY 14 budget process, with mark-ups likely over the next 4-8 weeks against a backdrop of continued bickering about the federal budget. To prepare everyone for advocacy during this period, we have compiled an FDA Budget Primer, composed of Q&A from Analyses and Commentaries over the last 3 months (since sequester in early March). If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
  • FDA Provides Report to Congress on FSMA Progress and Resource Needs. Last week, FDA sent Congress an update on progress under the Food Safety Modernization Act — “Building Domestic Capacity to Implement the FDA Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA) May 2013.”  Unlike much of the agency’s recent messaging, the Report is crystal-clear that the consequences of underfunding are significant and damaging to the health and safety of the American people.
  • Congress Concludes Recess and Returns to Washington Next Week. Lawmakers are scheduled to return to Washington next week after a week working in their districts.
