Advocacy at a Glance

August 23, 2013

Advocacy at a Glance offers you the bullet point summary of current advocacy issues associated with the goals of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA.

  • Boehner Proposes “Short-Term” Spending Bill to Avert Government Shutdown. As reported by the Washington Post this morning, House Speaker John Boehner wants to avert a government shutdown at the end of September by passing a “short-term” budget bill that “maintains current sequester spending levels.”
  • Scenario-Planning on Debt Ceiling and FY 14 Funding: It’s Difficult. When Congress returns in September, the focus will quickly turn  to the debt ceiling and the need for at least a short-term funding plan for FY 14. The current state-of-play is covered nicely in a Politico analysis available here and a New York Times analysis available here.
  • How Are Things Going at CDER and CBER?  As previously reported, earlier this August, a number of Alliance members met with senior staff from CDER and CBER.  In today’s Analysis and Commentary, Steven Grossman takes a look at some topline things we learned at the CDER and CBER meetings.
  • There Will Be No Advocacy at a Glance or Analysis and Commentary Next Week. We will return on September 6 with more news and insight on the FDA’s funding situation.
