FY 2012 House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee Mark-up Includes Deep Cuts for FDA. The chairman’s mark was released on Tuesday and proposes cutting the FDA’s budget authority (BA) appropriations by $285 million for Fiscal Year 2012, which starts in October of 2011. This represents an 11.5% cut from the recently passed FY 11 Continuing Resolution, which funds the government up until October of 2011. (For detailed analysis of the mark-up please click here). The full House Appropriation Committee mark-up is scheduled for Tuesday May 31 at 4:00 pm in Room 2359, Rayburn House Office Building.
Letter Writing Campaign: House Appropriations Committee. The Alliance for a Stronger FDA has encouraged stakeholders to voice their concern over the FDA cuts as proposed in the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee mark-up by sending a letter to the Chairs and Ranking Members of the House Appropriations Committee and the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee articulating how cutting FDA’s budget impacts their organizations. Congressional Meetings. This past week the Alliance continued its meetings with members of the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee. In the weeks ahead we will be focusing more on our Senate-side advocacy.
Debt Ceiling Watch. The debt ceiling issue remains front and center in the deficit reduction debate. On Tuesday of this past week, House Republicans called for a vote next week on whether to increase the federal debt ceiling. Additionally, Administration and Congressional Officials may be moving closer to a budget compromise that may consist of more than $1 trillion in cuts to federal deficits over the next ten years.
