Advocacy at a Glance offers you the bullet point summary of current advocacy issues associated with the goals of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA.

  • Debt Ceiling Agreement’s Implications for FDA Funding. The debt ceiling agreement reached this week has significant consequences for all government agency budgets, including the Food & Drug Administration. For a detailed analysis on how the agreement impacts FDA funding please see this week's analysis and commentary.

  • In-District Meeting with Congressman Tom Latham (R-Iowa, 4th District). The Alliance will be meeting with Representative Tom Latham on Monday in Ankeny, Iowa. Representative Latham is a member of the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee. Several Alliance members from Congressman Latham’s district and Iowa-based organizations will be participating in the event. We are particularly grateful to Embria Health Sciences for agreeing to host the event.

  • Stronger FDA Advertisement Campaign. As discussed at the Quarterly Membership Meeting, the Alliance is preparing an advertisement campaign advocating increased FDA funding. At the appropriate time, we will place the ad in several Capitol Hill publications. We are currently working to get Alliance members to sign on to the advertisement.

  • FDA Commissioner Hamburg Wall Street Journal Opinion Piece. Commissioner Hamburg authored a piece that ran in the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, entitled "America's Innovation Agency: The FDA." The article highlights the vital role the FDA plays in helping to spur new medical and consumer products, stimulating economic growth and in strengthening American competitiveness.
