CR Update, National Food Policy Conference and more

Advocacy at a Glance offers you the bullet point summary of current advocacy issues associated with the goals of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA.

  • CR Update: This past Monday, the Senate passed a 7-week continuing resolution (through November 18) that will fund government programs at their FY 11 amount minus 1.5%. Based on some changes in the timing and amount of emergency relief funding needed by the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), the Senate was able to pass a bill that House Republicans said they would agree to. We should know that for sure next Tuesday when the House votes.

  • National Food Policy Conference, October 3-4: The National Food Policy Conference takes place next week (on Monday and Tuesday). Speakers for Tuesday include The Honorable Jack Kingston, Chairman, Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee (11:00 to 11:30 am) and The Honorable Margaret A. Hamburg, Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration (11:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon).

  • Office of Management and Budget Meeting: The Alliance is scheduled to meet with officials from OMB in early October. The focus of the meeting will be FDA funding for FY 2013.
