Sequestration Update and more
Advocacy at a Glance offers you the bullet point summary of current advocacy issues associated with the goals of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA.
Sequestration Update. Last Friday the Administration released the Sequestration Transparency Report which details how it would implement automatic, across-the-board budget cuts that are scheduled to take place in January of next year. The Alliance is monitoring events related to the Sequestration process and how it impacts FDA’s funding. Last week the Alliance provided analysis of the Sequestration Transparency Report’s implications for FDA. In this week's Analysis and Commentary section you will find additional analysis on sequestration’s potential impacts on FDA.
FY 2013 Continuing Resolution Update. The Senate will not vote on the FY 2013 Continuing Resolution until next week because of disagreements about amendments. The measure will set government spending for the first 6 months of fiscal year 2013. The bottom-line expectation is that the Senate will pass the version recently passed by the House, which largely holds government spending at levels set in 2012.
Alliance Holds Capitol Hill Briefing, Challenges of FDA in a Globalized World. On Monday the Alliance hosted congressional staff for a briefing on the challenges FDA faces in a globalized world. Part of the event focused on how the sequester would have a negative impact on FDA's ability to properly deal with the pressures of globalization. The Alliance extends a special thank you to the staffs of Chairman Jack Kingston (R-GA) and Ranking Member Sam Farr (D-CA) of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies who sponsored the event.
