  • Fiscal Cliff Draws Closer In this week's Analysis and Commetary, Steven Grossman highlights some of the latest developments regarding the fiscal cliff negotiations and discusses the prospects for FDA’s funding in the FY 2013 and FY 2014 budget cycles.

  • Banner Year at FDA for New Medicines. The FDA is on track to approve more than 30 new drugs in 2012 -- the most in 8 years. This means more life-saving therapies and cures available for patients. An FDA report released this week (FY2012 Innovative Drug Approvals) details the agency’s drug approval initiatives in 2012.

  • Report: Uncertain­ty over the FDA Budget Makes Planning for Hiring and Backfilling Vacated Positions Extraordinarily Difficult. The Partnership for Public Service has released a report (The State of the FDA Workforce) which highlights several budget-related workforce and management challenges the FDA faces and how these challenges are impacting public health.
