  • Commissioner Hamburg to Address the Alliance. We are pleased to announce that on February 5, Commissioner Hamburg will address members of the Alliance at our 2 p.m. meeting in Washington, DC.

  • Debt Ceiling Postponed Until May. Congressional debate on the debt ceiling has been postponed from February/March until May, providing renewed hope that sequestration can be avoided. This is described and discussed in this week’s Analysis and Commentary.

  • Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee Assignments to be Announced in the Near-Term. The members of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations subcommittee are expected to be announced near the end of this month.

  • Associate FDA Commissioner Leaving Posting. Dr. Stephen Spielberg, Deputy Commissioner for Medical Products and Tobacco is leaving the FDA after serving one and half years in this position. The Alliance wishes Dr. Spielberg  all the best in his next endeavors.  Leona Brenner-Gati, MD, will serve as Acting Deputy Commissioner for Medical Products and Tobacco.  Dr. Brenner-Gati is currently the Associate Commissioner for Medical Products and Tobacco.
