On FY 13 Appropriations and more

Advocacy at a Glance offers you the bullet point summary of current advocacy issues associated with the goals of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA.

  • On FY 13 Appropriations. The Senate and House completed FY 13 appropriations this week, clearing the decks for them to start consideration of FY 14 budget and appropriations bills. The final legislation is analyzed briefly in this week's Analysis and Commentary and in considerable detail in the document entitled “FDA Final FY 13 Appropriations Numbers.” As you will see from our analysis, we believe appropriators chose to prioritize FDA in a very difficult year, and thank them for their work.

  • Alliance Hill Day. On Tuesday, March 19, more than 45 Alliance members participated in 55 meetings with Congressional staff. Please have a look at the one-pager and the PowerPoint slide deck that were distributed at each of the meetings. The day was a success in that we were able to educate a number of offices about the importance of FDA and its funding needs and we heard back a large number of expressions of support for the agency.

  • Alliance Submits Testimony to House Subcommittee. Along with a number of Alliance members, we submitted written testimony to the House Ag/FDA appropriations subcommittee this week.

  • Congressional Recess. The House and the Senate both worked on their FY 14 budget resolutions this week. The House finished and adjourned on Thursday. The Senate hopes to complete action by Saturday. Both bodies will then be in recess for 2 weeks.
