Alliance’s New FDA Budget Primer Attached. We are about to launch into the next phase of the FY 14 budget process, with mark-ups likely over the next 4-8 weeks against a backdrop of continued bickering about the federal budget. To prepare everyone for advocacy during this period, we have compiled an FDA Budget Primer, composed of Q&A from Analyses and Commentaries over the last 3 months (since sequester in early March). FDA Provides Report to Congress on FSMA Progress and Resource Needs. Last week, FDA sent Congress an update on progress under the Food Safety Modernization Act -- “Building Domestic Capacity to Implement the FDA Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA) May 2013.” Unlike much of the agency’s recent messaging, the Report is crystal-clear that the consequences of underfunding are significant and damaging to the health and safety of the American people.
