Alliance for a Stronger FDA Disappointed by President’s FY 15 Budget Request and more

Advocacy at a Glance offers you the bullet point summary of current advocacy issues associated with the goals of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA.

  • Alliance for a Stronger FDA Disappointed by President’s FY 15 Budget Request. In a media release issued on Wednesday this week, the Alliance expressed our concern that the proposed 1% increase in appropriations ($25 million) is wholly inadequate for FDA’s growing responsibilities. In this week’s Analysis and Commentary, the Alliance’s deputy executive director, Steven Grossman, expands upon the reasons the budget request is inadequate and cuts through the rhetoric that was designed to make it look like more than it really is.

  • Alliance Gets Its Message Out.   This past week the Alliance’s reaction to the President’s budget proposal  was covered in several leading news and trade publications including: Politico, Inside Health Policy/FDA Week, ModernHealthcare.com, FDA Webview, In-Pharma Technologist, and Agranet.

  • Have you signed up for FDA Funding Lobby Day?  Please keep in mind that March 19th is coming closer, and we need your help!  Last year we had 60 people participate -- we’d like to get that to 75.  Please set aside the day (or part of it), and join us in spreading the important message of FDA funding.  We would be thrilled to have more than one person from each organization -- so bring a colleague.  Please e-mail Tony Curry.

  • Written Testimony Due in the House and Senate.  Those organizations wanting to submit testimony on FDA appropriations are reminded that the deadline for the House agriculture/FDA appropriations subcommittee is March 20. The deadline for the Senate agriculture/FDA subcommittee is April 4. Both subcommittees have provided guidelines and strict 5-page limits on submissions.
