Alliance to Announce Its FY 25 Congressional “Ask”
This week’s Analysis and Commentary is entitled “President’s FY 25 Budget Request: FDA Needs More.”
Alliance to Announce Its FY 25 Congressional “Ask.” Each year, shortly after the release of the President’s Budget Request, the Alliance creates a document, “our ask,” to respond to Congressional demand for better rationale and specific funding recommendations. The “ask” is the platform on which our lobbying and advocacy rests for the entire year.
We expect to announce our ask either the week of April 8 or 15. The function of the “ask” is discussed here.
Also, today’s Analysis and Commentary compares the President’s FY 24 with his FY 25 budget request. That this year’s request is significantly less than last year’s is a concern and the comparison of the two requests is the topic of this week’s Analysis and Commentary.
Why the Alliance “Ask” Is So Important? More than just the substance, the Alliance “ask” delivers the message that a broad base of FDA’s stakeholders supports the agency and advocates for it to have the necessary resources. There is no other federal regulatory agency that enjoys this type of support.
Because the stakeholder community is united, our voice is being heard. Over the last 12 months, 104 reporters have produced 597 news stories and editorials that mention the Alliance’s advocacy positions and educational programs.
Alliance Planning Annual Hill Days in May. The Alliance is planning Hill Days in May. We plan to meet in person with House offices on May 7-8, and with Senate offices on May 15-16. We also plan a round of virtual visits with both House and Senate offices on May 22-23. We encourage Alliance members to join us for these visits. Please let Ben Dash know of your availability for any of these days.
The Alliance’s Hill Days are an opportunity to advocate for a strong, well-funded FDA and educate Congress about FDA’s expanding mission and growing responsibilities.
Broad participation from every stakeholder group and member organization strongly reinforces our unity about FDA’s funding needs and our commitment to two messages: “a strong FDA benefits all Americans” and “FDA’s growing responsibilities require a budget that grows.”
Updated House and Senate Member FY 2025 Appropriation Request Information. As of publication, neither the House nor the Senate Agriculture/FDA Appropriation Subcommittees have announced their hearings regarding FDA’s FY 2025 appropriation request. Nor have they announced deadlines for individual Congressmen and Senators to submit their FY 2025 requests. Individual offices continue to release their personal office deadlines for these requests. The Alliance will submit its FY 2025 recommendations to these offices and urges Alliance members to do the same.
Attached here (House) and here (Senate) are updated lists of those deadlines with links to the individual request forms. We will continue to update these lists as additional information becomes available.
We urge Alliance members to also respond to these offices with the message: FDA is a funding priority because of its role in protecting public health and advancing food safety and innovative medical products. We encourage you to look at our March 15 Friday Update for detailed information on the FY 2025 FDA request.

FDA Discusses Chemicals in Food. For everyone interested in food chemical safety, FDA launched a new Consumer Update (here) entitled “Is Food Safe If It Has Chemicals?” It provides a good starting place for those interested in the question.
