Senate-Side meetings, Update on Senate Fiscal 2012 Appropriations Process, and more

Advocacy at a Glance offers you the bullet point summary of current advocacy issues associated with the goals of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA.

  • Senate-Side Meetings. The Alliance held a round of meetings on the Senate-side this week and will be conducting additional meetings with Senate appropriator’s offices next week.

  • Update on Senate Fiscal 2012 Appropriations Process.  While the Senate Appropriations Committee has announced it will take up the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill on June 28, there does not appear to be any clear path forward for the other Senate appropriations bills.  For more analysis on the status of appropriations in the Senate please see this week's Analysis and Commentary ("When will the Senate consider FDA appropriations?").

  • Update on Debt Ceiling Negotiations.  As of Friday afternoon, President Obama is slated to meet with leadership in the Senate on Monday in an attempt to forge a path forward to meet the August 2 deadline.

  • "Pathway to Global Product Safety and Quality."  FDA released an important document outlining the challenges of regulating imported products this week.  The document lays out import challenges in a number of FDA-regulated areas, and includes an important reference to resource limitations.
